Swimming goggles are a sensitive product, but unfortunately we often just throw them in our bags after swimming training and hardly get any care. triathlon.de tells you what you should do so that your swimming goggles last a long time and give you a clear view.
Swimming goggles: care in everyday training
The lenses of the swimming goggles must not and should never be touched with the fingers on the inner surface, otherwise the anti-fog coating would suffer. In addition, finger contact could cause stains from dirt, skin oils or sunscreen, which in turn would cloud the view. Touching is therefore only "allowed" at the edge of the glasses. After swimming training, rinse well with clear water and do not rub dry, but allow to dry well.
Since the triathlete's high-tech swimming goggles are not cheap, it is worth taking a special bag or bag with you for storage so that the goggles cannot be scratched during transport (keyword "cloudy" or "distorted vision"). Ideally, the glasses should be able to dry well, otherwise fungal growth can occur in the glasses. So if you take good care of your swimming goggles, you can use them for longer.
Freshen up old swimming goggles: Here's how
If the view through the swimming goggles becomes cloudy after a few months, you can use the following method to give the old glasses a new shine. But be careful – only do this with really old swimming goggles!
We recommend rinsing the glasses with lukewarm water and soaking them in a liquid bathroom or kitchen cleaner to remove traces of grease and limescale. The cleaner should provide citric acid to remove scale. Fabric softeners or dishwashing detergents could be used for cleaning, but should not contain any scratchy components. Products containing "vinegar" or "acetic acid" are too harsh and should be avoided at all costs.
After a few minutes, rub the goggle lenses lightly with a soft cloth. Then rinse the glasses again with lukewarm water and let them air dry. Cleaned like this, the glasses can still do their job for a while.
