Already for the 10th time: GEWOBA City Triathlon Bremen celebrates its anniversary in August

Bremen is looking forward to the 10th GEWOBA City Triathlon this year. On August 14, the anniversary event will take place again with three competitions and the Bremen State Championships over the Olympic distance. Registrations are still possible until August 7th.

Event center with maritime flair

At the GEWOBA City Triathlon, the name says it all: In the Bremen district of Überseestadt, a completely new district has developed on almost 300 hectares - right next to the city of Bremen and with many exclusive waterfront locations. Huge warehouses, harbor basins and maritime industry stand alongside modern architecture. The maritime industry is also based here and allows tradition and modernity to harmonize in a fascinating way. The transition zone, start and finish are therefore located directly at the Europahafen, which inspires with a unique environment and a grandiose atmosphere on the quay and harbor basin. This is also where the opening discipline of swimming and a jump into the harbor basin begins.

The bike course is completely closed on the day of the event and runs on paved paths, so that the athletes can fully concentrate on their sport. The turning point route is designed particularly flat for fast bike times and leads through Bremen's Überseestadt to the Waterfront shopping center with a few curves. The subsequent run is largely completed on the water. The final route leads along the cheering audience on the lively Schlachte promenade to the turning point and back to the quay in Überseestadt.

“Last year our triathlon was one of the few in Germany to be carried out with the corresponding requirements. We are very pleased that after two difficult years for the entire events industry, we were able to plan our anniversary event this year without restrictions and that spectators are also allowed again," says Jan Brüning from the executive Spospom GmbH.

However, since Corona is still an issue, the organizer offers all participants a special service: If the triathlon has to be canceled due to corona, all athletes will receive their participation fee back.

The athletes don’t go away empty-handed even if they have their own corona disease: If a corona infection is proven (max. 4 weeks before the event), the starting place will be postponed to the coming year. "We are expecting around 1,000 participants this year," says Brüning optimistically. When registering, athletes can choose between three competitions: The popular triathlon includes 500 m swimming, 20 km cycling and 5 km running and is intended for individual athletes. In the various relays, up to three different athletes can complete the stages of the popular triathlon. There are categories for companies, women, men and for mixed relays. Olympic distances are required for the Olympic Triathlon: 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running.

Registrations are still possible

Registration for the event is possible until August 7th at www.gewoba-citytriathlon-bremen.de . Late registration on site is also possible – if the participant limit has not yet been reached. All athletes receive a medal after their competition and a corresponding finisher shirt can be booked for 15 euros when registering.
