Just in time for the 40th anniversary of its market launch in 1982, SHIMANO treated the 105 group to the ultimate upgrade with the introduction of electronic Di2 shifting technology at this level.
The long-awaited SHIMANO 105 R7100 group not only makes Di2 performance accessible to a significantly larger group of racing cyclists, it also offers wireless , reliable and easy-to-use electronic 12-speed shifting technology , with which SHIMANO recently set new standards an even more affordable package.
Racing cyclists, who previously had to rely on mechanical shifting technology in the mid-range segment, can now also enjoy the functionality and technology with which SHIMANO caused a sensation when the latest DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA generations were launched last year.
This is the new SHIMANO 105 DI2
Following the launch of electronic Di2 (Digital Integrated Intelligence) technology in 2009, this latest Di2 version from SHIMANO features significant functional advancements, including a wireless cockpit and the expansion to a 12-speed system.
Further developed Di2 platform: The completely newly developed Di2 system guarantees fast shifting with a wireless cockpit.
Improved interface, optimized ergonomics: With a finely tuned balance of comfort, aerodynamics and aesthetics, the SHIMANO 105 Di2 guarantees safe and comfortable ergonomics and enables a clean look in the cockpit area.
Improved brake system: In addition to the improved brake control, the new brake system of the SHIMANO 105 is characterized by lower noise and easy maintenance and care.
New carbon wheels: The new tubeless carbon wheels are an ideal combination of aerodynamics, rigidity, low weight and an attractive price.
hybrid system
The SHIMANO 105 relies on a hybrid system consisting of a wireless connection between the cockpit components and a cable connection between the rear derailleur, front derailleur and the central battery, which is usually housed in the seat tube, which ensures maximum reliability in all conditions. And just like its big siblings DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA, the SHIMANO 105 also shines with extensive options for quickly and easily adapting it to the wishes and preferences of the driver via the E-TUBE app.
The shifting system can be individually configured via E-TUBE PROJECT, for example by setting the shifting speed, the number of shifts while the button is held down or the synchro-shift and semi-synchro-shift functionality.
In addition, the system can be paired with many third-party bike computers, including Garmin and Wahoo. For example, the gear currently engaged or the battery charge status can be displayed on these devices.
12-speed circuit
With the step up to 12-speed, the SHIMANO 105 has the light and heavy gears that road cyclists expect at this level, but at the same time is characterized by pleasantly small gear steps between these two extremes. Responsible for this are the cassette options with 11-34 and 11-36 teeth as well as the cranksets with gradations of 50-34 and 52-36 teeth. In combination, they even enable a reduction in the drive train, so that steeper ramps and longer climbs can be conquered with ease. In addition, these optimized components guarantee a more efficient use of your own physical resources, as the smaller gear steps make it possible to always pedal in an ideal cadence range.

New RS710 carbon wheels
In addition to the shifting and braking components, SHIMANO is also introducing two new carbon wheels at this price level for the market launch of the 105 Di2. Once again, SHIMANO's tradition of gradually adopting technologies from the top series to downstream product levels has proven itself. The C32, specially designed for uphill performance, and the all-round model C46 are characterized by the same DNA that makes the corresponding C36 and C50 wheel sets in the DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA so attractive - in particular the balanced relationship between aerodynamics, low weight and rigidity.
The C32 model features a 32mm deep rim with an internal width of 21mm; the target weight is 1,502 g. The rim of the C46 wheelset is 46 mm high, also has an inner width of 21 mm and is expected to weigh 1,610 g. Both non-group wheelsets are both 11-speed and 12-speed compatible, tubeless ready and feature a neutral, attractive SHIMANO logo.
