After Jan Frodeno announced his participation in the PTO European Open, one question remained: where will the race take place. Ibiza has now been named as the venue for the first event of the PTO Tour 2023. The PTO race is embedded in the World Triathlon Multisport World Championships.
The PTO European Open will feature a 100km race for women and men (2km swim, 80km bike, 18km run) to be held in Ibiza Town in the idyllic setting of the Balearic Islands and co-hosted with the triathlon multisport World Championships 2023 will be held. The two PTO races will be televised live to over 170 territories worldwide thanks to the PTO Tour's partnerships with Warner Bros. Discovery and a number of other regional and national broadcasters.
Commenting on the news, Sam Renouf, CEO of PTO said: “We are delighted to confirm that Ibiza will be hosting the inaugural PTO European Open and the kick-off to the PTO Tour 2023. It continues the expansion of the PTO Tour and our journey to different continents, courses and climates and will be a fantastic start to the season.”
The experience for the athlete will be unique as the circuit will pass through the most famous places on the island. The swim will take place at Figueretas Beach, the traditional swim course for triathlon events in Ibiza. After the swim, the athletes go to the transition area to start cycling towards San Antonio, a multi-lap bike course leads back to Figueretas beach for the second transition. The first part of the run passes by the port of Ibiza and from there the laps take the athletes into the city's World Heritage Site. It's an exciting course that will showcase Ibiza with a finish area at Plaza del Martillo in the heart of the city.
