For very few triathlon beginners, the first competition bike is a professional time trial bike. On the one hand, because these are definitely not cheap and represent a big investment if you want to try the sport first. And on the other hand, some already have a racing bike at home. The first modification here is often the triathlon handlebar attachment to get into the triathlon-typical seating position. However, the installation of such an attachment often results in a problem: the saddle is too far back and cannot be moved further forward.

The difference between a triathlon bike and a normal racing bike is, among other things, the seat tube angle. This is 72-74° for a normal racing bike, while a triathlon bike has between 76-80°. The steeper angle places the rider further forward over the bottom bracket axle, allowing for a more comfortable ride on the aerobar and extension (right angle between lower and upper arm) and avoiding overextension. However, since, as already mentioned, a time trial bike is often not an option for the beginning, a bent seat post can help to “recreate” the triathlon seating position as easily as possible.
